Application Process
Step 1: Sit GAMSAT
Before applying through UCAS, you must sit the GAMSAT exam. GAMSAT is offered twice a year in March and September.
GAMSAT results are valid for 2 consecutive years in the UK. For applications in 2026 for programs commencing in 2027, you can use GAMSAT results from: March 2025, September 2025, March 2026, and September 2026.
Step 2: Register with UCAS
Create an account on the UCAS website (www.ucas.com) and obtain your UCAS Personal ID number (UCAS PID).
Step 3: Indicate UK Application in GAMSAT Registration
You must indicate on your GAMSAT registration that you are an applicant to a UK program. This must be completed by midnight GMT 31 October 2026.
You must also provide your UCAS Personal ID number and indicate which institutions/courses you are applying to. This information can be updated until 31 October 2026.
Important: If you do not indicate you are a UK applicant or provide your UCAS PID by 31 October 2026, your GAMSAT results may not be forwarded to UCAS and the universities.
Step 4: Submit UCAS Application
Complete and submit your UCAS application by 15 October 2026. This deadline is earlier than the standard UCAS deadline for most other courses.
You can apply to up to 5 courses through UCAS. Make sure to use the correct UCAS course codes for each medical school.
Step 5: Interviews
Interviews are typically conducted between December and April. Each university will contact you directly if you are selected for interview.
Step 6: Offers
Offers are typically made between March and June for programs commencing in August/September.
Admission Criteria
Selection for graduate-entry medicine programs through UCAS is typically based on three criteria:
- ✓Upper Second Class Honours Degree (2:1)
Most universities require at least an upper second class honours degree (2:1) in any discipline. Some universities may accept lower second class honours (2:2) with additional qualifications.
- ✓GAMSAT Score
Your GAMSAT score is a key component of the selection process. Each university may have different score requirements.
- ✓Interview
Most universities require an interview as part of the selection process. Interview formats vary by university.
Note: Selection is based on these three criteria, though schools may apply additional criteria. International students should check individual university websites for eligibility requirements.
